The smarter kitchen: the next generation of temperature monitoring

In health and aged care foodservice, temperature checks are a small but essential part of delivering safe meals. For busy kitchen teams, however, the process needs to be quick, simple and reliable, without adding unnecessary steps to an already demanding workflow.

Monika has introduced the next generation of its Thermapen handheld temperature probes, giving foodservice teams greater flexibility when carrying out everyday food safety checks.

The new range includes a classic foldaway probe for reliable core temperature checks, alongside an infrared option that provides quick, contactless surface readings. The infrared function is particularly useful for rapid checks on incoming goods or food surfaces before a core temperature reading is taken.

Both Thermapen options integrate with Monika’s connected monitoring system, allowing temperature readings to be captured digitally and recorded within a central, fully auditable system. This removes the need for paper-based records and gives managers greater visibility of food safety activity across their operation.

The new probes are also designed with the realities of commercial kitchens in mind. An integrated display makes readings easy to see during one-handed operation, while a replaceable battery can provide up to five years of use without the need for a wired charging cradle. Each Thermapen also features a unique NFC tag, helping teams connect the correct probe when multiple devices are in use.

Importantly, the new technology is designed to work with existing Monika systems. Healthcare and aged care operators can upgrade their handheld equipment progressively, rather than replacing their entire monitoring system at once.

By combining practical handheld technology with connected digital monitoring, Monika is helping kitchen teams make temperature checking faster and food safety records simpler, while maintaining the visibility and accountability essential to safe foodservice.
